tatina,

(head nodding solemnly and slowly)

yes, I know how you feel. it is kind of frustration like I did have last year and it got worse and the situation I had no choice, and I made sacriface and went ahead to purchase new one. that is the best thing to keep gong on.

oh yes, ios could be pain in neck 9rear) sigh1 and that is the best thing to upgrade ios and proceed. I used to like old one as I felt cool, but oh well1 that is how business is all about. wink1

First and foremost, thank you all, guys, for taking time to respond; I
really appreciate that.:)
Sieghard, once I read your response, I smiled, since this is actually what
has kept me from taking it to a sotre: it wouldn't worth whatever charge to
repair it --like you sagely pointed it, it is an old model.
I'll consider what you recommended about upgrading to IOS9.:)

phone 4s, and I had to make sacriface and got new iphoen 6 to settle down as
it is much cheaper. than spending on repairs. it is your choice.

it is a chip failure. apple store can fix it but on an old phone like
that, not worth spending the money.

Exacctly(!!), that's the problem I've had since....., well, it's been longer than a year now....!!! Identically, neither WiFi or BlueTooth will ever again work! It sucks, actually, especially when travelling abroad, but, whenever, whereever and whomever I've asked..., couldn't give any solution.... Unless of course I take it to an Apple shop, which I've not decided doing yet, in hopes I buy a new one soon.....:)

Kind regards, Sieghard, b.t.w., and thank you!

HI. perhaps she has the same issue as my 4s had. both wifi and
bluetooth failed on the same day. can no longer turn either on but the
phone itself works.

Hello Tatiana,

Welcome, I think you are probably the only person from Greece on the list. Yes, iMessages definitely will use cellular data if WiFi is not available. If I may ask, why is WiFi disabled on your 4S? Is it not working any more?

Sieghard

Thank you so much for clarifying, Sieghard! Are you 100% sure one can use also one's cellular data in order to send iMessages? Cause I thought what Marie has said to be the only way for exchanging such messages. If so, many thanks again! See, I can only use my c.d. for iMessages, since WiFi has been disabled on my "oldie" 4S....(sigh). By the way, I must take the opportunity to thank moderator(s) for creating this list, and for accepting my request to be a member.

Cheers,
Tatiana from Athens

Correct and to add to what Christopher said and to correct Marie, iMessages are sent via WiFi if you are connected to WiFi, but if you are not they use cellular data.

I think of text messages as SMS text messages, so they would count against the text message limit of your cellular plan. I think of iMessages as instant messaging, so they are part of your data plan and not your text messaging plan. In that way, they are similar to email.

Hi, are iMessages considered paid text messages, or are they
considered data exchanges between iDevices? I hope that makes sense.
I'm just curious to know if iMessages would be billed by a carrier.
