Well, it's cheaper. If you don't have already an airplay enabled device, or if you don't have a stereo with $100 airport express attached to it, and you want to stream music to that device, 35 bucks gets you a chrome cast. Or if you have any device running some OS other than Apple, and you want to send music or a TV show or movie from that device to some other device, then the chrome cast works, where airplay would not.
