At this point though, you could probably score a refurb Apple TV third gen for $40. If all you want is streaming and airplay, then it’s more than good enough for that.
The wife and I have two refurb Apple TVs and are perfectly happy with them. They’re both over a year old and have never given us trouble. She uses them all the time to airplay her German TV programs. If you don't have already an airplay enabled device, or if you don't have a stereo with $100 airport express attached to it, and you want to stream music to that device, 35 bucks gets you a chrome cast. Or if you have any device running some OS other than Apple, and you want to send music or a TV show or movie from that device to some other device, then the chrome cast works, where airplay would not. Hello, The Chrome Cast works a bit differently than the Apple TV. Chrome Cast depends on the app on your phone. For example the Net Flix app on your phone will have a button that says something like cast to chrome cast or something like that. In a way it is better than the Apple TV.
