I don't know if this was the situation or not, but the head phone jack
and the speaker each have their own volume settings. It's possible the
volume on the head phone jack got turned down very low, so you could
still hear the speaker but nothing with a pair of head phones. Just a
thought.

I don't know if this will work or not, but have you tried turning up the
volume once the ear pods were plugged in?
