Listening to Audible on an iOS device is generally a fantastic experience. I used to have a Stream and a Booksense which I bought just before I realized I could buy an iPod Touch which was fully accessible and I never looked back. I sold my Stream and my Booksense because what is easier than to go online on the PC (or Mac) and to buy a book, then open the Audible app and it’s right there and all I have to do is tap the title and it downloads. You can start listening after the first 6 or 8 Mb of a book have downloaded, usually after just a few seconds and if you happen to have two iOS devices like an iPhone and iPad you can listen on the iPhone, then pick up the iPad and it starts playing where you left off on the iPhone – it’s awesome. I tend to listen to audio books on my Victor reader stream, rather than on my Apple devices and have sometimes had difficulties transferring the Audible books to my Stream so I decided to end my subscription to Audible. I started out listening to Audible books when I first became visually impaired about 7 years ago as I was initially unaware of all the other options available to the blind community. When I listen to Audible books that I previously purchased or listen to commercially produced books that appear on BARD, I generally find them very well narrated. I am becoming more used to listening to the computer generated voices on the Bookshare books, but I can imagine that for other people like myself who became visually impaired as adults that listening to the generally well read human narration available on Audible might be a good investment.
