It all comes down to personal preference and perception, I personally feel an iphone in a decent case (not even necessarily something as heavy-duty as an Otterbox Defender) is quite tough and of course if you use the Earpods or a Bluetooth headset you could have the iPhone in your pocket, clipped to your belt or in your purse or backpack and never have to take it out if you want to simply change the volume or pause/resume playback and with the remote on the Earpods you can even skip or rewind. Just my 2 cents worth regarding this, as I said, everybody has their way.
