When I bought my iPhone 5 in December 2012, I believed Apple Care at that time did not cover water damage. I bought a three-year warrantee from Square Trade. Fortunately, I have not needed to use my warrantee. I also bought a Ballistic Hard Core case, which has protected my iPhone from the many drops over the last three years.
In reflection on this issue, I feel the three-year warrantee left me feel unnecessarily attached to my iPhone, keeping it longer than what I might have. The replacement cost of a 2.5-year iPhone is not much and I would rather have the most current model than one more than two years old. In the future, I plan to get a two-year warrantee instead of a three-year warrantee. Also, credit card companies can double the length of a company warrantee. Has anyone skipped Apple Care and used their credit card’s extended warrantee service for iPhone problems? I wonder if this would be as good as Apple Care or Square Trade.
