Jordan,

What I meant is that there are adapters which have a female Micro USB
connection on one side and a regular male Lightning connector which plugs into
the iPhone on the other end. This allows you to use a regular Micro USB cable,
plug the adapter into the Micro USB end and you now have a Lightning cable.
Therefore if you, for example have other devices like a Bluetooth headset or
speaker or maybe another phone with Micro USB connector, you can now just bring
one Micro USB cable and the adapter instead of having to bring two completely
separate cables. This could also be useful if you have one of these adapters
with you at all times and maybe you are in a situation where you need to charge
your iPhone, but you don’t have a Lightning cable with you. This way you can
ask anybody with a Micro USB cable because your adapter converts it into a
Lightning cable.

I think eventually everything is going to the new USB-C standard and I wouldn’t
be surprised if Apple did so at some future point. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t
think it will happen in the next 2-5 years, but 5 years is a long time in the
tech world and if there were increased pressure from governments especially the
government of the US to adopt this standard Apple may not have a choice.

Regards,

Sieghard
