Thanks for your offer. I got the phone set up just fine. It's interesting that my husband, who is cited, didn't see anything about skipping anything about VoiceOver turning it on etc. He did some initial set up. Then I turned on voiceover, once the screen was up after the initial set up. Then it I ended up going back and just using my encrypted backup, since it was going to be a fair amount of work to set up the apps like I had them before, and my attempt to get rid of some problems I was having was not successful. So I just use mine crept back up, and everything is OK. Mary
