Hi Mary, I tend to flick the mute switch, and once it vibrates, I
triple click. I guess that's when you had to.

I guess my problem was, I didn't know quite when to do the triple
click home. The first thing that came up was that business with
the rotating languages, where you have to pick the one you want
to use. I guess I was expecting some notification about turning
on voiceover with triple click home. There wasn't one of those,
at least if there was, my husband didn't see it. So I didn't
actually click triple click home. Everything turned out OK in
the end.

Hi all,
I recently got my new iPhone 7 Plus. I decided to start out
from scratch, hoping that maybe some of the problems I have been
having would go away. So I didn't just plug it into my Mac and
go right away from my encrypted backup. I started from scratch.
And there was nothing at all telling me about voiceover or
letting me turn it on or anything. If my sighted husband had not
been there, I would have been out of luck. It's been a while
since I've tried setting up a device from scratch. But I thought
Apple had a way that would let you turn voiceover on right at the
beginning of the process. This was missing. What didn't I do
that I should've done? It turned out I went ahead and ended up
doing my encrypted backup restoration, since the set up from
scratch didn't fix any of the problems I had been having and
still have. But I was really surprised that there wasn't
anything enabling me to start voice over from the get-go.
