No clues how, but you can just change the email address on
appleID.apple.com somewhere which would mean you retain
everything. Again, don't have any more details at the minute.

Hello folks,
I want to change my apple id> However, my understanding is that
the apple Id is connected to the email address. I no longer want
to keep the same email address, which means I will have to change
my apple Id. The problem is that I am afraid if I log on to my
iPhone and iPad using a new apple id would make me lose my
purchased apps and books. I have already invested several
hundred dollars on these things and I do not wish to lose them,
or lose access to updates.
Is there a way of changing apple id without causing such a mess?
