According to some of the reviews on Amazon, the longevity of the retracting
mechanism is not what one needs to worry about. Several of the reviewers said
that after a little over a year, one or both ear buds stopped working, I wonder
if it might have been because of having to pull on the ear bud to pull it out
of its retracted state. I imagine that if this be the case, LG will do
something to remedy this problem. It is something to consider, but if I wanted
a set of them, it probably would not stop me from buying them, I would always
be very careful when pulling them out.

I see they’ve changed their design in my most recent purchase (my second pair),
and so I assume they are taking steps to keep improving the longevity of the
retracting mechanism. My most recent purchase does “snap” the earbuds quickly
back into the base, but rewinds them much more slowly.

I believe the 10 suffix of the model number (such as the 910) indicates a
design with an additional microphone was added to improve transmitted voice
quality.

Despite my belief they are trying to improve the design, I do have to
acknowledge that anything with moving parts is more likely to break; this is
the price I am w2illing to pay for a headset that does all the things this one
does.

Good luck,

Chip

Does anyone know the differences between the HBS 910 and the HBS 1110? I have
the HBS 700, and am thinking of upgrading. I'm a little worried about the
retractable cables, though. What if The mechanism stops working? Can anyone who
has one of these later model of HBS headsets speak as to the longevity of the
retractable cable mechanism holding up?

Thanks,
Ari

I also highly recommend the HBS 1100. The utility of it is the most desirable
attribute. It’s not going to bowl you over with bass, but it sounds ok. The
ability to simply pull out one or both ear buds whenever you need them is quite
wonderful. The latency is ok; not perfect. I have seen other blue tooth devices
with less. However, it’s not bad either.

I’m going to have to re-purchase it because someone lost mine. Going to check
to see if there is possibly an updated version since I am not certain when the
1100 was released.

I have and like the HBS-1100. Quality and latency are great!

Hi Michael,

I like the ones from LG which fit around your neck in a loose horseshoe shape,
but they rest on your shoulders. You pull either one or both earbuds out of
the base unit (they extend on wires) to use it, and when done you press a
button and the wires automatically wind the earbuds back up into the base unit.
The base unit has buttons not only for talking to Siri and making or
disconnecting calls and volume, but also for play/pause and fast forward/rewind
of played audio material (which often are not present).

The model I have is the LG HBS 900 but I believe someone here said there’s now
a 910 available (not sure of the difference). They come in a variety of colors
(mine is silver gray).

One of their advantages is that when not in use, they are very unobtrusive, so
they can be worn in professional or social environments and they don’t draw
attention.

I have a notes file which describes where the buttons are and what they do if
you end up buying these, just drop me a request at:
[email protected]

They run around $90 I believe.

Hth,

Chip

Subject: Bluetooth headsets

Hi list, I was wondering what people think is the best Bluetooth headset. Most
I have tried have latency problems while typing. I prefer two ear headset which
either go in the ear or sit on top of the ear. I do not like the jaw bone. Any
suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
