I don't know if Apple is the most profitable company in the world. Maybe they are. And market sure in the long run is not totally irrelevant. But divorced from profit, marketshare is a relevant. And so much of the android fan base out there seems to think that marketshare trumps all and the profitability is a relevant. They're always these fans of my articles out there trumpeting the end of Apple. And it hasn't happened yet. As long as Apple can keep Bies happy and keep growing the base to the extent that it needs to order to keep its profits up there and it's stock price up there, it will do great. And it really doesn't matter in terms of marketshare worldwide, how much that is. That's all I'm saying. Obviously, if you're trying to sell a product and nobody wants to buy it, you're done. But the issue here between android and Apple has always been market share. The android fan voice say, look how small apples worldwide market share is. But it doesn't matter, as long as the people who like apple keep buying it and making apple big bunches of money, and as long as there are new people coming into the system who think Apple's products are worth the high prices they charge. That means Apple App Store profits are up, developers are happy, and life goes on. In that sense, marketshare is not relevant.

I'm not sure why we're arguing about Apple's profitability though. They are a very profitable company. I don't think this means they can ignore market share though or stop listening to their customers. I will say though that they must be doing a lot of things right, and they aren't going to stray from their core principles that made them the wealthiest company in the world.

For all those of you who apparently don't bother to read the technical
press, the great majority of apples profit comes from the iPhone. It's
that simple. And for those of you who say I should try android, I have.
In fact, I own to android devices, a Nexus six and an axon seven mini.
Before that, I had a Nexus seven. I would love to find a device that is
cheaper than an iPhone that does as well for me as an iPhone, because I
am like everybody else in that I like to save money there are things
about the Apple system that I do not appreciate, one of them being the
fact that is rather a pain to transfer files to and from an iPhone. On
the other hand, as someone who has a Mac, I offer you the observation
that transferring files between android devices and Mac is not a piece
of cake. So, grass is not always greener on that side of the fence either.
Also, the top-of-the-line android phones, such as those from Samsung on
the top in and the Google pixel are very comparable if not more
expensive than iPhones. As such, I would want those devices to be kept
up-to-date quickly for several years, as is the case with an iPhone. My
Nexus six which is I believe, the same vintage as an iPhone 6, has yet
to receive an update to the latest operating system. And it's not going
to get anymore. The iPhone 6 on the other hand, God it's update right
along with all other Apple iPhones. That is a huge drawback to Android,
and Google knows it. They're taking steps to fix it, but I remain
skeptical as to how successful they might be. I'm not saying android is
bad. And I think it's great that there are phones in many price ranges.
But what I am saying is that it is a simple matter of provable fact as
acknowledge in the technical and financial press that Apple makes the
vast majority of profit in the smart phone industry. You can love it or
leave it but you can't change it. And marketshare has absolutely nothing
to do with it.

Most don’t make profit?

How a company is going to be in business if they don’t male profit?

It doesn’t make sence. Yes, a lot of people is leaving IOs and are
moving to android. You should try it, is much better. However I should
recommend that don’t buy a cheap android phone. Try to buy a nexus
6p, or a pixel phone. They are great.

Well, apparently not too many people are moving away. Apple is making
most of the money in this industry. There are many people who make
android devices. Most of them make no profit. Companies don't stay in
business forever if they don't make a profit.

Hi Sieghard, while I can appreciate your issue regarding OS
reliability and phone integrity, the fact is people are moving
away from Apple devices for just that reason. With the added
advances in the camera, both front and rear, pictures will get
larger, and I don’t even think there are phones available higher
than the five that have 16 gig memory, and even those devices are
pushing it. When they introduced the enhanced camera in the
iPhone six, they realized that sixteen gigs just wouldn’t do if
people wanted to take pictures, I mean, I’m still amazed that
they’re still offering the 32 gig devices, especially in the iPad,
but again, this is just the smaller issue. How many phones out
there are getting more and more waterproof and dust proof, and
they don’t seem to have a problem with an SD card slot, in
addition, the OS security could be plugged to avoid that sort of
thing. Fact is, I think that Apple is guarding it’s closed
platform so people are forced to get their content from iTunes and
App store. Open up the file system and you’re looking at an
easier way to jailbreak, and Apple couldn’t have that.
Regardless, I do think that Apple should open their eyes when it
comes to expansion, if only to make it easier to connect to a
portable solution, lest they get left out in the cold when the
Android devices that allow for expansion come rumbling in. Just a
   thought.

   Hi Victor,

I am not sure if Apple could keep their walled garden concept and
offer SD card expansion slots. If you allow people to introduce
media on an SD card then the OS must have access to the folders or
maybe it would be more accurate to say that Apple would have to
give users access to what is on the SD card and that would
possibly defeat the purpose of the closed nature of the platform.
Any SD card, even the newest and fastest, would also introduce a
lot of latency in how fast things get loaded and I think this all
goes against what Apple wants to achieve. I think actually that
even some high-end Android phones are moving away from that, but I
might be wrong, just something I heard. Does the Google Pixel for
example have an SD card slot? Lastly, having such an expansion
slot on an iPad is one thing because there is probably plenty of
space, but having it on an iPhone is most likely not very
practical as there hardly is any space left as is and of course
making a highly waterproof or water resistant device would
probably be much more difficult if the device had an SD card slot
Personally I have no problem with Apple offering internal memory,
I totally agree that nowadays 16 Gb doesn’t get you far, but I
wonder how many people still buy 16 Gb devices if they can get a
64 Gb device (4 times the space) for $100 more.

   Sieghard

I don’t agree. Granted, the 300 dollar price tag is nice, but not
   with the memory it’s offering.

I think the 32 and 16 models of any device is outdated, unless
it’s got an expansion slot for an SD card.

Frankly, I’m completely surprised that Apple hasn’t embraced this
concept, since it would enable them to lower the amount of ROM
memory on the device, and allow people to expand according to
their budget. Alas, it would seem that Apple is destined not to
   ever get the message.

These are not big deal upgrades. If they actually introduce a

a bit more fanfare. But these upgrades are no big deal.

       Apple Inc. <https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/AAPL:US>
introduced a revamped version of its most popular-sized iPad
at the cheapest price yet, and a shiny red iPhone 7, whose
sales will help to combat AIDS.

Apple unveiled a new 9.7-inch iPad with a brighter Retina
display starting at $329, and a special edition red-aluminum
finish iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, part of the company’s
decade-long partnership with (RED), which contributes to the
Global Fund to fight HIV and AIDS.

“Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers
have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS
through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod
nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s
lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and
Apple Watch,” Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said in a
       statement <wlmailhtml://news/terminal/ON6020MEQTXJ> Tuesday.

Apple is the world’s largest corporate donor to the Global
Fund, contributing more than $130 million, the company said.

Apple is expected to reveal a significant upgrade to the
       iPhone later this year.
Cupertino, California-based Apple last year unveiled a new
iPhone which reignited sales growth in the Christmas quarter
after a year of declines. Those falling sales came even as
Apple introduced a cheaper handset in March in an effort to
spur growth in emerging markets. The only sales growth in the
2016 fiscal year came from the services business, which
includes Apple Music and the App Store, and the other products
       category.

Apple shares rose less than one percent to $142.55 at 10:24
a.m. in New York. Earlier they hit a new intraday high of $142.80.

The new iPad starts at $329 for 32GB with Wi-Fi and $459 for
32GB Wi-Fi plus cellular. It will be available to order
starting March 24 in the U.S. and more than 20 other countries
and regions. The iPhone (RED) models will be available in
128GB and 256GB models starting at $749 from March 24. Apple
also announced new storage capacity for the iPhone SE. That
4-inch display model will now be available in 32GB and 128GB
models, doubling the current capacity and replacing the
       previous models.

Other product launches Tuesday include a new app called Clips

that helps people combine video clips, photos and music that
can be shared through social media and messages. Apple also
said its Swift Playgrounds iPad app, which helps students
learn to code, is available in five additional languages:
Japanese, French, German, Spanish and simplified Chinese.
