I tried to ditch the DSL but I couldn't. It doesn't work quite that way here or not in my area. It is more costly to go all wireless. As it is the infrastructure for Verizon in my neighborhood is crude, copper coils not fiber? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, May 28, 2017 3:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: the cost of staying connected
Hi Deidre, You can have DSL without a phone line, I got rid of my home landline almost 10 years ago once I had a more or less unlimited cell phone plan anyways I didn't see a point in paying for a landline as well and I just converted it to what some carriers here in Canada call "Dark ADSL" which means you only have ADSL but not phone service. Now I have a fibre connection, but not having the landline saved me about $30 a month. I know by now and especially in larger cities even here in Canada a landline may not cost so much any more, but I am in a small town up North and everything is a bit more expensive here. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of deidre muccio Sent: Sunday, May 28, 2017 3:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: the cost of staying connected Kelly I wasn't bitching about costs, I was inquiring about costs! I was asking myself the question what it was all worth! I don't even use cellular data, rarely, I mainly use my phone via Wi-Fi. My main cost does come from the mobile phone service which I've concluded overtime is a safety issue for me being blind. It's good that I can call if I am somehow get lost or need to be meeting someone and they don't show up. Things like that. Otherwise, as Richard said in one of the first post on this topic, I could just use an iPod touch. Or a desktop computer. Though the desktop would not be as portable as let's say an iPod touch or a laptop computer. Or, as I did when I first converted to iPhone, are used a throwaway for Alice which I still own that had once belong to a friend. That's the phone I learned on. It was fun. And then I had a Sim card put in to the for S and I use it as a phone and that only cost me $25 a month. It took Verizon about six months to convince me to convert from mild mobile phone and update to an iPhone. I don't think I regretted it, though the cost isn't the cheapest. 50 bucks a month plus I buy insurance. Then of course I still have to keep the landline for the DSL so I get stuck there too.
