This may not be the most elegant solution, but how about a battery case. You 
can find quite a number of them for under $25. It might work for you as 
temporary solution until you get your battery and then could be useful for 
times when you will need more battery

I got the battery replaced on my iPhone 6 last week.  The process was 
wonderful.  I had the phone with the new battery in my hands less than 48 
hours after I took it to the UPS store.  The nearest Apple store is 
approximately 85 miles from my residence, so taking it to the Apple store 
wasn't feasible.  The thing I also want to mention is that the shipping 
charge wound up being only $3.90 each way.  I paid it up front when I paid 
for the battery replacement.

I've heard that the wait time is long. I would go into Background App 
Refresh settings and turn off any apps that you don't want to work in the 
background. Also, go to location Services and turn off apps that don't need 
to know your location. Make sure the ones that do only use it when you're 
using the app, except weather apps. Check Battery settings to see if any 
apps are using a lot of battery, and if so, remove them from the app 
switcher when you're done using them. You could also use low power mode at 
least some of the time.
