The trick when trying to balance speakerphone volume and VO volume is to make sure you have added Volume the rotor. Now when you are in a call, take the phone away from your ear so that the call switches to Speakerphone. If the call volume is louder than necessary, lower it with the volume buttons on the side of the phone. You have to make sure of course that you didn't disable this feature in "Settings" and "Sounds". Now when the call volume is comfortable and VO is still not loud enough, bring your phone as close as possible without engaging the proximity sensor. Now flick the rotor to volume and then flick up with one finger and this will increase the volume for Voiceover relative to the call volume. If you put this all the way to between 90% and 100% and I guess if you are not also hard of hearing, you should hear Voiceover just fine. Do you mean that you can slide the volume of a phone call low enough to hear what voice-over is saying? I've tried activating and deactivating the side buttons in sound settings, but it didn't change anything to my problem. I wonder what can be different between your settings and mine.
