This person has never had a computer of any nature because of her hand problems, & I'm trying to talk her into getting an iPhone over the iPad, but for some reason she wants an iPad. Maybe now when I read her these messages she'll change her mind. She uses a Revere cell phone that she would for phone calls, but like all of you, I feel the iPhone would be her best option! Correct, you can’t send regular SMS messages with an iPad unless you also have an iPhone on the same WiFi network or you are using some sort of app. I believe in the US google Voice would allow you to use your iPad much like a phone. You can also double tap on a contact phone number on the iPad and make a call, again if the iPhone is in range. But, without an iPhone, you would use FaceTime or Skype. As for text messages, you can text using your email address to other Apple device owners with an iPad, but I do not think you can text to a non-Apple device.
