It sounds like a critical piece of code was corrupted, so couldn't be updated 
with an over-the-air update. Try pressing and holding both the power and home 
buttons for 10 seconds. Then, release the power button. Continue holding the 
home button and plug your iPhone in to the computer running iTunes. If this 
master reset doesn't work, your iPhone is probably bricked. Jailbreaking voids 
any Apple warrantee, so your only choice then will be to replace the device.
