another thing to keep in mind is that screen reader doesn't read everything
on ITunes when you are restoring a jail broken phone. I was trying to
restore a phone to unlock it. Jaws kept telling me that there are 8 hours
remaining for the computer to download the software after which the phone
can be restored. On the computer screen however, I got the message
"congratulations your phone is unlocked." It was to appear after the
restoration was already complete. So, even if the computer was stuck at 8
hours, I was ready to use the phone in hardly 15 20 minutes.
Just another thing to keep in mind.

That's not necessarily true. I had the same issue with my phone before I
sold it on EBay. Google is your friend. I found a community form, and they
mentioned a program called "IReb" It fixes the currupt files on your phone,
and then you are able to update. If you can't find it, email me off list or
iMessage me, and I will send it or put it in my drop box for you. My info
is below. The program is pretty simple. You download it, plug your phone
in to the computer, run it or allow it depending on what system you are
using, and after about 30 seconds, your phone reboots twice and your good to
go. HTH

It sounds like a critical piece of code was corrupted, so couldn't be
updated with an over-the-air update. Try pressing and holding both the
power and home buttons for 10 seconds. Then, release the power button.
Continue holding the home button and plug your iPhone in to the computer
running iTunes. If this master reset doesn't work, your iPhone is probably
bricked. Jailbreaking voids any Apple warrantee, so your only choice then
will be to replace the device.

Hi Kliphton
What a relief. I left it running with the spinning icon all night and
next morning it was still the same. When I got to work, however, the
battery was completely drained. When I hooked it to the machine it
started after a while. I'm not sure what is happening but itunes doesn't
see it. Even if I select not to back up to the cloud I still don't see
it in Itunes.
What other setting I'm I missing?

Whenever I did this with my 4s, I had to do it through iTunes. For some
strange reason, the device doesn't want to do it when jail broken. Just
turn off your phone, then plug it to the computer, it will come on an
launch
iTunes. You should know the rest from there.

Subject: Jail Broken iphone 4 restore problem
Hi listers
Yesterday, I tried to reset my jail broken iphone 4 from the settings
reset
feature in ios 5.11 and now the phone is completely frozen. My wife
tells
me that she sees a rolling icon on the phone. It doesn't respond to
anything, key presses, or if I attach it to the mac. What to do? Any
suggestions?
