Hi Keith, Both types of backups back up all of the same information. If you restore from a backup, even iTunes backups download your apps from the app store if you restore from them, so there isn't a speed advantage in restoring from iTunes either. I would suggest backing up with icloud on a regular basis and doing an encrypted iTunes backup before you get a new device so that if you have to restore from the backup, the iTunes one is available in case something is wrong with the iCloud one.
