Thanks very much to the many members who posted replies to my question. I never thought my post would garner such a plentiful response.
Since I have for a long time been out of contract with my cell phone provider of eighteen years, and since I wish to remain with them for the time being, at least, I don't want to consider contractual phone buying with anyone. The price of $100 is alluring since it comes with no strings attached; that is, the phone would be entirely paid for, and my monthly bill would be unaffected. I am very partial to the small phone chassis, and since I fully understand but am immune to the blandishments of phone technology features that I do not need, the offer is indeed compelling. Of course, if I buy the phone and then the price drops after Sept. 12, or if Apple should come out with an advanced four-inch phone (which I doubt), I will kick my self. However, I have done self-kicking before, and the pain wears off pretty quickly. <grin> The bottom line: I'm most grateful to everyone for their opinions, and I'll be curious to see what happens on Sept. 12.
