Hi Bonnie,

Unfortunately, the symptoms you describe may mean that your battery is
beginning to fail. I have known them to be 30 or 40 percent charged, the phone
just quits, and when plugged in, say some low digit percent. When I replaced
the battery in this IPhone 6 in the spring, it went from about 40 percent at
lunch to about 2 percent at 4 o'clock, having been used maybe half an hour's
worth in the interveening time. I got the battery replaced at Batteries Plus
for about 50 dollars. Being that your phone will update probably twice more, it
would be worth replacing the battery since you like your phone. If it does
this sudden quitting again, that definitely is not a good sign. If I were you,
I would take that other battery and cable along if I were going to be away from
home for very long, in case it quits somewhere very inconvenient for it to do
so.

I would like to thank Deb Lewis for the steps she gave me in resurrecting what
I thought for sure was a dead iPhone. I tried plugging it in to electric to
recharge. First, when it finally came back on, it was at only 4 percent. Even
the electric didn't seem to work, so I thought I would plug the phone in to a
rechargeable battery I have that has a plug to recharge the iPhone
specifically. It came back on, so I suspect that when I thought I was charging
it that it was dead.
Speech and voice over are back, so all is well. Thank you, Deb, so very much. I
guess I like this phone more than I realize. It's terrific for email which I
have just started using.

Thank you as well for your willingness to help if I called today. That means a
lot to me.

Well there are a few things to try for sure.
The first thing I’d do is see whether it really turned itself off or just
stopped talking.
First, make sure it’s plugged in even if you think the battery is fine.
Plugging it in will actually start it if it’s powered off in most cases. While
you’re at it, and if it is plugged in, unplug it and replug it in. Note whether
the little power noise happens.
This doesn’t guarantee anything I found with my last major problem, but try
muting and unmuting it. If the phone has power, and if you can make it mute and
unmute, you’ll get that little haptic on muting, this is another good indicator
that you have power to it.
If you don’t have power to it, leave it plugged in for about 20 minutes and try
all this again.
So we’ve got power and it mutes and unmutes, but still not talking. Plug in
some headphones. Or if you have it paired to a Bluetooth speaker or headset,
activate that. If that gets sound, but the speaker does not, we can go from
there.
If you know you have power, you can try turninging voiceover on and off if
you’ve set that up on triple click home.
If you still can’t get its attention, we’ll probably have to talk in prep for
you to call Apple.
I’ve always been able ultimately to recover my phone, there are a few things
that typically happen. But the very most recent time it was a total system fail
and Apple had to replace it. Even that was a challenge, I had to use Rick’s
phone to get into mine to turn off Find My Iphone for them. If we get to that
miserable place, I can do that for you as well because it’s something they will
not do. But we’re not to that yet.
Let me know if none of this gets it, I’m home all day if you need to call.

I was just listening to notifications when my phhone either locked or turned
itself off. Is there anything I can do that might bring it back? I have an
IPhone 7. Thanks.
