The Xr has longer battery life and cameras. Being a couple of releases later it’ll have longer sw support. That said the 8 is cheaper and will serve well for a few years. If there is some feature (prefer Fingerprint unlock? Face??) that one has that the other doesn’t would make the case for one over the other.
