I have tried every part of the screen, every kind of Z and even an up and down motion for as long as I have been using iPhone which is since 2013. With mail it has been a fantastic thing. When I finish a conversation I just scrub with 3 fingers tapping 3 times and I go back to the inbox and can swipe up to delete. Of course then there is using it to dismiss notifications, hoping very soon it goes back to dismissing itself like before 13. Just so glad we have options! It is a three line movement back and forth. I have done it successfully only about 4 times. That is why I changed the scrub to another gesture which we can do in 13.3. I now tap with 3 fingers 3 times and the scrub is done and the notification is gone. Works beautifully with the new gesture, but I sure couldn't do it with the gesture Apple gave it.
