I just tried it and it doe sseem that at the top half of the screen you still see a bunch of photos and the one you were on when you tapped share is highlighted, i.e. Voiceover would say "selected". Try and touch the screen in the botto half and you should find first a bunch of people you recently texted, if you want to share by Messages and that person is listed you can just tap on that person's name, otherwise flick right and you get the usual other share options after that list, e.g. Airdrop, Messages, Mail, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. Of course it depends which apps you have installed, if you don't use WhatsApp or Facebook they won't show up.
