I always had Renters insurance when I rented, and of course, now that we are 
buying, home owners insurance.
I always buy Apple Care and it has been worth it on 3 different occasions in 
the second year, which is really what you are paying for.
Once, it was even good 3 months beyond the 2 years.  In brief, my wife's first 
iPad Mini wouldn't keep Wi-Fi connections.  Since I occasionally use it, I 
called Apple Accessibility.  Got a great guy who spent 90 minutes with us 
trouble shooting and sent us to the store to have the usual system reinstall.
It worked for about 30 minutes.
Called the Apple Accessibility guy back the next day (he had given us his 
extension.)
He spent another 2 and a half hours trying his best to fix it when he 
determined it was a Wi-Fi antenna failure.
 This was an iPad Mini 2.  He said, and I quote, "Aple can afford to give you a 
replacement."
So, he arranged for her to get an iPad Mini 2, refurbished, which is still 
functional though only used with the Great, Great, Nephews.
I bought her the iPad mini 5 when it came out since the old one was so out of 
date etc....

Don't expect that from all Apple Accessibility people.
