It should only count steps when typing if you put your phone on the floor and jump from letter to letter. Of course you'd have to do the ballet thing where you are on your tippy toes otherwise it won't work 🤣

Check the pedometer reading. Later, see if you can take a ride in a vehicle on something very close to that same path and check the readings before and after. My thought is, if it is truly measuring steps, it should not give you much after riding in a vehicle. Besides, the keyboard business would only possibly be if one had an apple watch; but I doubt very much that would register typing unless you are a very dramatic typist, 😊. If the phone is in a pocket, I could see tapping one’s foot registering as steps. That happens with some cheap standard pedometers you hang on a belt.
