Another thing Peter could do is to provide the phone number of his taxi company so maybe somebody else could try this for him.

Re: Can a number be automatically sent to a phone menu to always connect with the operator? Hi Peter, There is no getting around it, figuring out the right formula (how many commas, etc.) is horribly frustrating, but it is worth the trouble when you find that formula. I am a bit confused by your statement, “The phone app does not connect after sending the touch tone for “0”.” To be clear does that mean you open the phone app, click on a recent attempt to call the contact or perhaps open contacts and select/call? If I’m understanding correctly, that should work, unless there is the wrong number of commas, etc. I use Voiceover, or Siri, to dial contacts that include commas, etc.; works all the time. What a mystery! You said, “When placing the call manually, I can use VoiceOver to double tap “0”.” To be clear, in this scenario, do tap zero early in the announcement and/or before the “tone?” If so, the following paragraph can be ignored. Some systems force us to listen to at least part of the announcements. It is possible that the system insists you listen to the entire recording before dialing zero. You said, “Using 3 commas there is enough of a delay to hear: Press 1 to order a taxi, press 0 for an operator.” My question is if there is more spoken after that before the “tone” and the recording repeats? If so, try adding another comma (or more) until what may be required listening is done. As for if there is something else to push at the end of the phone number field, that is a great question, but there is not an automatic answer to that question…every system is different. I assume, since you didn’t hear instruction to dial 1 or 0, followed by the pound sign (or whatever), you should only need the 10-digit phone number, followed by enough commas to pause while a mandatory announcement plays, and finally then zero. However, I encourage you to speak with someone at the company to find the truth. I strongly encourage you to communicate the problem with the company. Maybe they can help resolve this by tweaking their system a bit. Sounds like you are a good customer, so I’m sure they do not want to lose your business. I learned long ago, unasked questions can never be answered/addressed. The worst that could happen is they cannot help and/or aren’t supportive, but obviously you won’t be worse off than if the question wasn’t asked. A year or so back, I had serious trouble connecting with a human at Medicaid. The system simply didn’t provide enough time to react via Voiceover. I respectfully requested they slow the system, providing sufficient time to act. I was denied by Medicaid, so haven’t had a need to call for a very long time; thus, no idea if they followed through. I would love to know how this all ends; please share if you feel comfortable. In the meantime, good luck Katrina From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Peter Tesar Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2024 8:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: NOT WORKING!! Re: Can a number be automatically sent to a phone menu to always connect with the operator? Hello, Thanks for your suggestions but it doesn't work. I would like to use the phone app to call 2 taxi companies. They play a menu with the option to press “0” to be redirected to the operator. They do not give the option to stay on the line to be redirected to an operator. The menu then repeats continuously. I was told that the “0” could be automatically sent by editing the contact and adding 1 or more commas and “0” to the end of the phone number field. I tried 1 and then more commas after the taxi number followed by the number “0”. The menu continues to repeat. Using 3 commas there is enough of a delay to hear: Press 1 to order a taxi, press 0 for an operator. I then hear the touch tone but the menu continues. When placing the call manually, I can use VoiceOver to double tap “0”. The operator then comes on the line. The phone app does not connect after sending the touch tone for “0”. Is there another character required at the end of the phone number field? Peter T. On 2024-04-24 12:48 AM, Katrina Anderson wrote: Peter, try the following: 1. Inside of the contact, there is an edit button. Click on that; you can swipe through and open fields as desired. When finished editing, click on update or save…can’t recall the prompt, but do whatever is needed to save the changes. 2. Navigate to and open (single finger double tap) the phone number field. 3. Put the cursor at the end of the phone number. 4. Add 1 or more commas and then zero. The commas are there to pass time and/or get to the prompt to tap zero. You could try using 1 comma to see if that is sufficient, and if not, continue to add commas as needed. When finished editing, remember to save your changes. That may be a poor explanation; perhaps someone else can do a better job. 5. Although it is a tad more complex and/or requires more effort, you can use the commas to automatically move you through automated systems. I use commas in contacts where multiple responses are needed. For example, the first prompt might require me to push 3, the second prompt might require me to push 1, etc. It takes some trial/error to determine how many commas are placed between digits, but when done, all I have to do is activate the contact and wait as digits are automatically entered. Different actions are needed at a particular point in my banks process, so I include only digits needed to that point; I can then manage to tap the required digit when prompted. Hello, I’m using the iPhone 14 and IOS 17.4. My Contacts has two taxies and whenever I call one of them, a talking menu comes up. With each menu there is no option to remain on the line to be redirected to a live operator. The menu keeps repeating. I have to enter the number zero for the operator. In a noisy area, it is difficult to find the number (on the onscreen number pad), with VoiceOver and the menu talking at the same time. Is there a way to have zero (or another number) pressed without having to use VoiceOver? Peter T. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
