Put it this way, you lead with the top edge if flat, with the back of the device if upright. That would make sense if you were going somewhere and looking at the screen.

Last week I was sitting outside a pizza place and I was holding the phone in my hand and it said that Good Fellas Pizza was at 3:00 and 40 feet away. I could reach out and touch the building.
