Thank you, Grant.  I wonder what the logic behind this odd behavior
is.  Perhaps the unit turns on because it anticipates, so to speak,
that the cable is about to be plugged into an electrical outlet, so it
might as well use any remaining battery power to initiate the boot-up
sequence.  Can you think of other plausible explanations?
