That is strange. I have the 4S, but it does not turn on when I plug the
cord unless the cord is connected to a power source. If the cord is not
connected to a power source, nothing happens. May be I should try it when
the battery is near empty, not when it is fully charged.
Cheers,
Cris

Subject: Re: An Unusual Way to Turn on the iPhone 5
Thank you, Grant. I wonder what the logic behind this odd behavior
is. Perhaps the unit turns on because it anticipates, so to speak,
that the cable is about to be plugged into an electrical outlet, so it
might as well use any remaining battery power to initiate the boot-up
sequence. Can you think of other plausible explanations?

The iPhone 5, 4 and 4S all work this way.

Hello, everyone.
I just purchased an iPhone 5 to replace my 3GS. If the phone is
turned off, I can turn it on by simply plugging the charging cable
into the phone's port. I don't have to press the "on/off" button, and
I don't have to plug the other end of the charging cable into a power
outlet. Do other iPhone 5s work this way? Needless to say, if I wish
to run the phone on its battery, I use the traditional way of turning
it on via the "on/off" button.
Thanks for all help.
