Where do you get these definitions of ear pieces and headsets? I ask because they differ from my understanding. A headset are headphones that include a mike and allow for hands free operation, whether this be for one ear or both. This is also what wikipedia says is meant by a headset http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headset_%28audio%29

Sounds like when you're listening to music, you're using a pair of stereo headphones and not a headset.

Either way, I think the understandings here are nebulous enough that people should just be clear about what they're talking about and what they're asking about.

If I want to listen to music, I use a head set with no mike. I'm
sitting down, laying down etc. The reason is I'm listening to music and
not out on the streets walking around. When I am, I use a Bluetooth ear
peace which lets me make and take phone calls it does not let me listen
to music. I don't need the distractions of music when I'm going
somewhere. I'm usually taking my cane these days as my Leader Dog is
retired and I don't like the wus dogs the schools are putting out now.

    Hi Sherry,

I guess we have to wait and see what Raul says, but my guess is that you
can't control playback with the M50. It seems that things like
    Play/Pause,
Previous and Next and so on are relatively common features on Bluetooth
stereo headsets, but are not part of single earpieces. I had bought a
Jawbone ERA at one point which is one of the more expensive headsets
    and I
currently have a Jabra Supreme which is also $99 and neither one of them
allowed you to do Play/Pause which for me would be enough.

At least the new Audible app is now much better at resuming playback
    after a
phone call. Before the update it would pause when a call came in,
    but after
the call was done it would not resume and if I was using my Jabra
    and had
the phone tucked away I always had to dig out the phone and start
    the book
again. Now it continues to play after the call and for me that's a huge
    improvement.

    Regards,
    Sieghard

I see you said you use the M50 for audiobooks a lot. Can you start
    and stop

the book with the earpiece? I have the Blue Ant and I can not
    control books

or music with it. And to contact Siri I have to say Phone Commands
    and then

wait while the earpiece says a whole long sentence about connecting
    to my
    phone's built in phone commands.
It is ok for calls and listening to voice over when I am holding the
    phone
and flicking but I really miss the music and book control.
So don't get the Blue Ant for books.

Hi all. yesterday I went to Austin to take a certification test for the
state so I can legally train consumers with the state. In any case, I
took my Plantronics M50 head phone, or rather, ear piece since it's for
a single ear, with me, and somewhere between leaving the Chris Cole
center and the Greyhound bus I lost it. I don't know if I dropped it out
of my shirt pocket when I took something else out of it, or if I took it
off and just left it there in the station. In any case, today I went out
for some personal life things and really missed having the ear piece
with me. So, now I find myself at Amazon, ready to purchase a
replacement M50, but then am thinking that since I love exploring new
items and trying out new things, maybe I should get a different kind.
Then when I think of this I have second and third thoughts because I
really like the M50. It's super light, has decent enough volume, and
since I mainly use it for VoiceOver and Audio book or podcast listening,
I am hesitant to buy another different brand.

I've looked at this list's archives and see a few other models people
have recommended, but I'm still not sure.

I guess there is no point to this message other than saying that if you
get used to something and then you don't have it, you will know how much
you really liked it if you miss it a lot.
