Hi Alan, I see where you are coming from, but if the manufacturers themselves aren't using the so-called correct terms, then how would a user look for a product when it's discussed as an ear piece on the list, but listed as a headset on a shopping web site? This is why we should call them what the manufacturers call them despite whether you or I feel is a wrong term.

In the unnamed store I visited yesterday, they showed me 1 ear and 2
    hear
sets with microphones. The labels on both referred to them as
    headsets. So,
I think we just have to be clear about the kind of head set we are
    talking
    about.

Where do you get these definitions of ear pieces and headsets? I ask
    because
they differ from my understanding. A headset are headphones that
    include a
mike and allow for hands free operation, whether this be for one ear or
both. This is also what wikipedia says is meant by a headset
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headset_%28audio%29

Sounds like when you're listening to music, you're using a pair of
    stereo
    headphones and not a headset.

Either way, I think the understandings here are nebulous enough that
    people
should just be clear about what they're talking about and what they're
    asking about.
