A good feature: I don't know how long this has been available, it may have
come with the update before this one, I just figured it out with this update.
Even though I still wish the jump forward button were visible to VoiceOver,
there is a way to move around in a chapter, even while it is playing, so
perhaps it makes the jump forward and backward buttons redundant. Before, we had
to turn VoiceOver off and go into button free mode to jump forward, but now,I
can touch just slightly down from the top right of the screen, just to the
left of where it says how much total time is left , and it says the progress in
the current chapter, and that it can be changed by swiping up and down. I
really like this ability.

Subject: Thoughts on the latest Audible update

  Hello List,

I am curious what people think about the most recent Audible update (version
2.0.4 from June 18).

Now that the Previous and Next chapter buttons are back on the main screen I
think this app the best it has ever been.

One thing I have not yet figured out is how one uses the volume button to
change the volume. When I double tap it Voiceover says 66% adjustable, but
swiping up or down then seems to change my playback position rather than the
volume. Of course I can simply increase or decrease the volume using the volume
buttons on the phone and I am only curious as to how it works with the volume
button since using the physical buttons on the phone makes a lot more sense to
me in any case.

I'd also like to hear how easy people find it to locate the Airplay and
Volume button by moving your finger around the screen. Not sure if it's just
me, but I think they are quite small and you really have to be right on them. I
also find it not very intuitive that Audible has changed the order these
buttons show up when you swipe from left to right. Physically at the very top
left of the screen is the Back button, just a bit to the right of that is the
Airplay button. Then there seems to be a gap and on the right side of the
screen is first the Volume button and then at the very top right is the Product
Info button. However, if you put your finger on the Back button and swipe right
once, Voiceover skips the Airplay button which is next and goes to the Volume
button. Another swipe then takes you correctly to the right and onto the
Product Info button and only a third swipe takes you back to the left and the
Airplay button.

The last item which they still have not done is to make the visual
highlighting accessible on the Chapters and Bookmarks page. A sighted person
sees the listing of chapters in the currently playing part and the chapter that
is currently playing is highlighted. If you go through the chapter list with
Voiceover you have no indication which chapter is currently playing. If it is
visually highlighted, shouldn't it be possible to make Voiceover say "Currently
Playing" when you come to the chapter that is playing? You can now find that
information on the main screen, here it will say, for example, "Chapter 17 of
25" but it would be nice if Voiceover announced the highlighting in the
Chapters and Bookmarks section as well.

In the update from a few days ago the mention accessibility improvements as
part of a list of "minor improvements", but I am not sure what this refers to
specifically.

I will write another feedback message to Audible because they really have
done a fantastic job with the app, but I'll continue to point out that issue
with the Chapters and Bookmarks page. I would also love it if they put an
option in the sleep timer similar to what the iTired app offers which is a
subtle sound maybe 10 or 15 seconds before the sleep timer stops playback and
if at that point you are still awake and want to continue to listen pushing a
button like volume up or down should reset the sleep timer to whatever interval
you chose, e.g. 8 minutes, 15 minutes etc.

iTired is such a brilliant and simple sleep timer and I really wonder why
this functionality to reset the timer before it expires is not something more
developers include into the sleep timers in their apps. iTired unfortunately
only works with the stock Music app and not with third-party apps like Audible,
Downcast etc.

Anybody who wants to write to Audible, the email address is

  Regards,

  Sieghard
