I was not disagreeing with what you said at all. I was just saying that
many people expected the 5S would have a 12 mega pixel camera. As we now
know, it doesn't. It has an 8. To be honest with you, using the camera to
take pictures that I can see anyway is low on my list of priorities. I
mainly see it as a camera to be used for OCR. If I offended you in any way,
please accept my humble apologies.

the 12mp example i used is for explainatory purposes only. In fact, i
stated very clear is 12MP Compact digital camera, not 12mp iphone
camera.
Photography apps or not does not change the physical hardware of a
piece of hardware. Those are use to enhance the image, it does not
improve the pixels counting.
What i was trying to say is that, it is not just the pixels count for
photographs, it is much more complecated than that.
Why do i know this? As a sami professional photographer, and also
having endless contacts that in the professional photography field and
graphic pre-press field, i think, i do understand a little as to how
cameras work.

such apps and add on lenses and other photography add ons.

Yes indeed, the number of pixels for a camera does not determine the
quality
of the picture. Usually photographers needs big number of pixels for
future
post photo use, such as blow it up in a wide print format,, photoshop and
other post photo pre preint purposes.
In fact, for an untrain user, nwhen you view on screen with a pare of aked
eye, if you compare a photo that take with the same spec of camera, that
one
stand 12MP and another stand 20MP, with the same environment and setting,
one cannot easily tell which is which, unless you blow both photo up to
say
A3 size or such.
Lots of professional photographer will agree that even a camera that could
have 41mp such as the latest lumia, but the quality of the camera lance is
not good enough or strong enough for any quality use. a compact digital
camera that is say, 16mp or 21mp "mp as mega pixels".
For a normal consumer they might think 41mp camera is a "wow" factor, but
41mp photo will take up to hundrets mb memory for one photo.
Now, the quality of lance will be all together another matter. If you
buying
a camera, when you choose against a 16MP compact digital camera, or a 8MP
DSLR (Single Lance Reflects), most professional photographer will choose
the
8MP DSLR. Reason behind is because of the quality of the lance, although
you
may suffer from less pixels, but the clarity of the image will be grater
than the 16mp compack digital camera. One good camera lance could cost
more
than thousands US$, and this simply can't be replace by a compack digital
camera, or even a 41mp camera phone.

Hi Jonathan,
As always a well written and complete overview. I am also still on a 4S
and
feel much the same as you. There may yet be few uses of NFC here in
North
America, but they are slowly increasing and once Apple puts a NFC chip
in
the iPhone this could give the technology a bit of a boost although I
also
feel there are still security volnerabilities which need to be addressed
before I’d trust it completely.
It is interesting how Apple often introduces something new and how then
said
feature or technological advance is played down by the media. Then
within
a
year or so Android and others quietly come out with their version of
same
feature/technology. I think SIRI was a good example for this and I would
be
very surprised if we didn’t see high-end Android phones suddenly having
fingerprint sensors very soon. Just as SIRI was a big incentive for me
to
upgrade, Touch ID is probably at the top of the list for me this time
along
with the faster performance.
I believe the iPhone 5C and 5S will be extremely successful for Apple
once
again just as the 5 was which nobody really thought. With the 4S Apple
put
out a true world phone and I feel that this is more true for the 5C and
5S
again as it was for the iPhone 5 last year. Furthermore, there are a lot
of
iPhone 4 and 4S and even some 3GS users out there who I think will most
definitely upgrade. These people especially if they come from the 3GS or
4
will be extremely happy with how fast the iPhone will be and with the
quality of the pictures.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 may have a 41 Megapixel camera and by a few might
be
touted as the gold standard in camera phones, but it would be
interesting
to
read an objective review and comparison of the 2 in terms of picture
quality
and camera features.
After everything is said and done I will most likely upgrade although it
is
a bit disappointing that I will have to wait for the initial in-store
release to order my shiny new 5S since Apple is not offering 5S
preorders
and I live in a very small and remote community where the closest Apple
Store is in Vancouver which by road is a 12-hour drive or a 1.5 hour
flight
and I don’t want it bad enough to fly to Vancouver to stand in line on
Friday morning next week!

will increase OCR processing speed.
All that said, it will still be necessary that one has a steady and
still
hand when taking the picture, and that the page be as close to 90

as
possible. Jitter (camera shaking), skew (text at angle off true
vertical),
and shading (shadows cast by light / not enough light / too much direct
light, are the factors which cause difficulty for blind people to
capture
images which are clear enough for OCR.
I use my iPhone 5 for OCR daily to very good effect. when I am able to
combine it with the StandScan Pro, my OCR is almost always just about
perfect.

Hi Annie and everybody,
I'm a little skeptical about the new iphone 5S performances on this

In fact, its Braille low speed and poor efficiency derive mainly from
the

As well, I don't believe the most improved camera will be able to
dramatically increase text recognition capabilities. Talking of simple
black
& white text recognition it especially depends on the picture clearness
and
understandability rather than on the higher megapixels resolution.
We will see!

the 5 will be no longer available?
