Speaking of volume, when I was using Ios 6, when I used the up and down
volume while no audio was playing, I would hear a bubble sound. This is no
longer the case with Ios 7. Should I have this sound?

your thought was correct but i don't know why the volume would not increase
when i hit the volume up button on the side without ear buds.
on a guess, i held home and top power for a bit at the same time and and it
seemed to shut down. i turned it back on with the ear buds plugged in to
verify it came back on, then removed the ear buds plug, hit volume up
several times and this time, the volume came up without the ear buds plugged
in so i don't know what really happened.

Sounds like you flipped the mute switch on. Make sure the slider on the
side of the phone at the top is slid all the way to the front. There's
also the Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> voice Over On -> Use
sound effects option. Make sure this is turned on.
