I tested this to make sure.  After I downloaded a book, got the download
complete sound, double tapped on ok, turned on airplane, the book played without any problems. When I used Itunes to transfer a few books to my ipod, Started the bard mobile app, I got the download complete sound. AT this point in time you don't need the internet to read a book.

Sorry about that. I read your message to say that you needed an INTERNET
connection when transferring a book over with iTunes. My understanding
is that you don't need an internet connection during the transfer but
you will when you go to play that book that you have transferred with
iTunes. Since this is what I thought you said, I thought it needed a

You do need to be connected to the INTERNET when you first start playing
a book that you transferred to your iPhone using iTunes, DropBox and so
on. this is for your authorization to be checked. You don't need to be
connected to the INTERNET to listen to a book you download straight to
your iPhone through the BARD app or that you've already started
listening to.

Even though the government is back up and running, it may take them a
while to get everything going smooth on the site and with the app. I
submitted a problem report but have not received any acknowledgement
of my message. Guess they have some catching up to do. If you are
