I have two thoughts. First, the emai may not be loading. If the body has not yet downloaded, then VO will not focus on where it will appear but rather on the back button. The middle of the screen, where the body will appear, will be blank until' the message loads fully.
Second, I have found that VO will not jump to the body if an email is to a bunch of people. You have to manually scroll down with three fingers to find the body, and even then there can be some focus issues.
