Hi Of course it's true that some apps use more power than others, but if a phone is draining, then the most obvious explanation is that one app or another is using the power and it's just an easy thing to eliminate.
In Mavericks, the battery menu shows you which apps are using significant amounts of power. If there is a similar thing in IOS7, I haven't found it yet. Reducing screen brightness is a really good one too. I always thought it counter-intuitive that the screen curtain didn't reduce power use, but them's the breaks. I have absolutely no authority to back this up, but I am convinced I noticed a reduction in power usage on my 5s after I locked the screen orientation.
