Just a couple of thoughts.
First, you talk about the remote buttons on your wired ear pods and
using them when reading books. You can get the same functionality with
bluetooth headsets. I wasn't sure from your email if you were thinking
that only the remote buttons on a wired headset would work with reading
books.
I double tap the clear notifications button and then double tap it a
second time to confirm and my notifications are cleared. I've also heard
people say a triple tap of the clear notifications button will also work.
It sounds like maybe the high quality voice hasn't downloaded yet. You
might want to check into this and even force this download if it hasn't
happened yet.

I was fortunate with about only 33 days left on my iPhone 5 Apple Care
that my headphone jack went out on the right side of my warranty. So I
got a brand new iPhone 5 today from the Apple Store. But it came with
iOS 8.1.2 which I'm not sure I was quite ready for but I'm not one to
look a gift horse in the mouth. this is the second new iPhone 5 I've
gotten under Apple Care and both times the failure was with the
headphone jack. Like many others on this list, I constantly use
earphones with my iPhone and I prefer the wired earpods because I love
the remote button for listening to books. Apparently, the electronics in
the earphone jack that interact with the earpod controls failed because
the remote and volume buttons stopped working.
I successfully restored my encrypted iTunes backup but was disappointed
to learn that data such as books downloaded in BARD Mobile, voices
purchased in voice Dream Reader, and other things I've no doubt yet to
identify do not restore with an encrypted iTunes backup. Can someone
comment on why this is? Are these apps not set up so that their data is
backed up with an iTunes backup or is this some sort of Apple restriction?
I know I've seen posts about notifications in iOS 8 but since I've been
running iOS 7.1.2, I've not followed them. When I tap the clear
notifications button on my notification screen, nothing happens. Is this
still a bug? Is there a workaround for clearing notifications?
I can tell a definite difference in the sound of VoiceOver in iOS 8
versus 7. It sounds more as if it's coming from a well and does not seem
as sharp at least to my ears. Have others experienced this or is this
due to running on an iPhone 5 with less processing power? I also noticed
that the word gigabyte is pronounced yigabyte which seems odd since I
would expect audio quality to improve with iOS upgrades.
I'd love any help with my questions and also appreciate any comments
regarding similar iOS 8 upgrade experiences. I realize I'm late to the
upgrade party and please excuse my tardiness.
