Christopher, Thanks for your comments. I have posted looking for bluetooth headsets with the remote button capabilities and got some good suggestions but decided to stick with the wired earpods because they sound so very good and others have said that bluetooth sound quality can't match wired quality. I'll just use extra care this time around to try and minimize the number of times I plug and unplug my earpods.
I have tried double tapping and triple tapping the clear notifications button but nothing happens. I'll keep playing with this as more notifications arrive. I do have the high quality voices downloaded for US, British, and Australian English and can tell that the pitch is simply different than it was on my phone under iOS 7.1.2. It's not a big deal and I'm sure I'll adjust but the mispronunciation of gigabyte as yigabyte is curious. I also noticed that VoiceOver doesn't say the TV portion of the DirecTV app but instead just seems to emit a sort of click cough such that only the word Direct is pronounced. Like I said, these aren't big issues and I'm sure I'll quickly adapt but I am curious if others who are using iOS 8.1.2 on newer hardware such as the 5S and 6 phones have noticed any difference in the VoiceOver speech from iOS 7.x. First, you talk about the remote buttons on your wired ear pods and using them when reading books. You can get the same functionality with bluetooth headsets. I wasn't sure from your email if you were thinking that only the remote buttons on a wired headset would work with reading books. I double tap the clear notifications button and then double tap it a second time to confirm and my notifications are cleared. I've also heard people say a triple tap of the clear notifications button will also work. It sounds like maybe the high quality voice hasn't downloaded yet. You might want to check into this and even force this download if it hasn't happened yet.
