Perhaps you are trying to save part of the file. If that is the case try editing the file, delete the section you want, then do a CMS ERASE filename filetype, finally FILE.
CMS does save a copy before erasing the original. This will clear the original first and give room to save the smaller version. Of course, if something happened between the ERASE and FILE, you've lost the file.
