Arggghhh. In more searching I ran across the FTP command:
LOCSITE---+-Varrecfm-----------------+--->
+-Fixedrecfm record_length-+
Use the LOCSITE command to change the record format and record length of
used for files crated no the local host.
Unfortunately, even though I issued: LOCSITE VAR
then: GET mvs_dsn local.vmfile.e
The file still came in as LRECL 600 RECFM F, same is it is on the remote
MVS system. <sigh>
