Fred,

You can avoid the effects of things like blinky cursors simply by
minimising the viewer. That should prevent the viewer from requesting
further display updates until it is restored.

Cheers,

Hi, James,

Thanks...that's handy to know. It's certainly easier than
rearranging the apps on the remote desktop. Still easy to
forget, though, if you're staring at one of several
viewers at full screen and it looks quiet. In fact, very easy
to forget in general (I find, from experience...you just walk
away for a glass of water, decide to look up a a book
while returning, and you come back to the computer
hours later). This kind of thing is just perfect for
automation. Especially if you have to minimize several
VNC viewers at full screen (so the bar at the bottom isn't
visible and needs to be popped up, and it's crowded with
apps).

Maybe VNC viewer can just look at the state of the screen
blanking (or screen saver) to decide whether to ask for
updates?

As I said, your solution is the best so far. Thanks.

Fred
