Hi, looks like this didn't make it to the list since there is no cc: and only my name
is in the to:
It also gave me the chance to quote Jon's original message at the end.

Hi guys,
This is an interesting subject; and I agree with Carlyle, I have been totally open
with my daughter and son with regards to Internet security and the need to be cautious
whilst on the Internet. They are young and impressionable and I hope that I can teach
them whilst keeping an open eye on them. My kids often call me in and ask me about
some setting or site, how to do this or that, and we have had some great conversations
- discussions even - regarding the techy things.
Teenagers, and 'tweenagers can be difficult at times and are open to all kinds of
Internet temptations, aren't we all, but showing them a degree of trust and talking
them through things is a fine way of preparing them for when you are not around, or
they have left and are at College. Of course, I have set up access rights and Internet
security levels for each of us, and add untrusted sites to the ever growing list; but
I chuckle when I hear them talking of how they tell their friends about 'how to tell
an E-mail virus' and 'how to download the latest Microsoft patch!'
So my advice to Jon, would be to take his son out for a round of golf and further
develop his relationship with him, it's amazing what you talk about on the golf course
(or where ever your hobby takes you).
Just re-read this e-mail and it doesn't mention VNC at all and sounds really moralist
- it is not meant to be. VNCing in will not help the situation as it will slow down
the connection speed and he will be aware of your presence - especially if you jog
your mouse!!

Jon,
don't you realize how that reads? You don't trust him
but you want him to feel like you trust him.
My first advise is to be honest with him and yourself.
Let him know you are keeping an eye on him - for his
own protection.
Also, what would you do if you found something that you
want to confront him with? You would have to blow your
cover.
Now, really, you don't need to be a peeping tom. Make
sure he doesn't have the access permissions to allow
him to tamper with the log files and just keep track of
them.
You could also set up a site blocker and keep adding
the objectionable URLs from the logs.
I would talk to him about what has been blocked and why,
while allowing him a chance to explain why he feels he
needs to visit those sites.
