But, if you telneted to smtp-gw-4.msn.com that should have nothing to do with the VOP server it's self. At that point it's your telnet app and msn's mail server. Even if you telneted from your VOP server, as you are using the telnet app to communicate not the vop delivery service. So maybe msn's mail server uses this port to verify your IP address is really active (no spoofing of some sort) or something like that?
