Try to open 1028 UDP inbound and see what happens - I just started for us
last week

My issue with MSN just started on Monday night, I have not made any changes
to any of my firewalls or email servers in months. So I really don't think
it as anything to do with port 1028. Unless this port thing just started
Monday??

Imagine trying to troubleshoot this problem without realizing the 1028
issue. It had drove us crazy for awhile until we checked our firewall
activity

Hi Bill,

We had this port blocked in both directions.

Opening it up on our border router gave allowed us to telnet to the
greeting. Still trying to work out whether the port is being opened by
us or by the remote side. My syslog server which is configured to log
all blocked packets is not showing any 1028 UDP blocks which is strange.

I am also dubious as to why it is needed. But it must have some
significance.

Something here doesn't make any sense. MSN certainly isn't connecting
back
to RPC services on your Vopmail box. Is this a local (e.g. on box)
firewall
your refering to or a good old fashioned box upstream from your Vopmail
install?

Is the connection your seeing outbound to MSN, or inbound from them?

Best,
Bill
