Okay, Tom's response to me: "We had done something similar in gas to what B is doing in liquid, a long time ago (1993). Based on my conversations with Godis we decided to revisit the experiment using more up to date equipment and higher currents. So it works, but it's not that wonderful in terms of raw tritium output versus other techniques. What is nice is that previously we had used meter long wires, and now we can use 2cm long foils that can be an alloy."
