My main concern is that someday I may not be able to buy incandescent bulbs
even though I have a legitimate reason for needing some.

You remind me of a tour I took a few years ago of Boing's Everett Washington
747 plant.

It is so big that one loses a sense of perspective, then they point out that
the ceiling trusses are 30 feet high-- you could build office buildings just
in the attick spaces!

They claim it is the world's largest building, ~100 acres under one roof,
and with no pillars in the center.
You could fit all of Disneyland or other small towns inside!

  The tour guide said they couldn't afford such a facility in most other
locations.  In the winter, the lighting and equipment keep the inside warm
enough without any heating facility, and in the summer, they just open their
5 acre sized garage doors for ventilation. With new efficiency mandates,
they might have to add a heating facility.

P.S.
I'm really astounded that anyone could build what amounts to the equivalent
to an office building with utility services, sewage treatent plant, heating
ventilating and air conditioning, plumbing, electricity, lighting,
furnishings etc.  ( 6 million parts total ) all in an air tight pressure
vessel to FAA standards, and yet turn them out about one a week!  I can
hardly imagine the management skills required to pull that off.

I think dedicated resistance heaters would be better for this
application. They would last longer and would be less in danger of
breaking and spreading broken glass around.

One of the advantages of CFL and other non-incandescent lighting is
that the bulbs last for a long time. In offices and factories,
replacing lights is a major expense, and it gets in the way of
production. So bulbs that go for years without having to be replaced
are big advantage.

As Hoyt says, some specialized uses for incandescent bulbs will
likely remain for a long time. Such as in ovens, or for outdoor porch
light in very cold places (Siberia). As Arthur Clarke said, once we
invent a tool, we never stop using it. Just about everything ever
invented is still in use somewhere for some purpose.
