What is the motivation to do this experiment?
Even though this could be a rhetorical question – the obvious answer is that
BLP has a burn-rate for operations that is very high, and they have run
through the most recent millions of investment dollars …
Unless Mills can demonstrate a much higher COP to optical
photons, this will never be gainful.
Yes, that would be true if you limit the COP to around two, which is about
what the Graneau water arc explosions showed. And we can agree that Mills
has not yet proved to have more than this level, which is why many were
amazed at his insistence to proceed with more scrutiny on a lame-looking
experiment with photovoltaics.
But basically he needs the cash, and he may not really need to “close the
loop” to get it, since his investors have proved to be amazingly patient.
Their only choice, if he can show anything which is even marginal – is to
lose everything or pony up more cash.
If one assumes that water alone can give a COP of two, as in the Graneau
work, and furthermore, that Mills does indeed have a catalyst which can
double that level of gain, then with a COP of 4 and a collection/conversion
rate of 25% he could conceivably come close enough to breakeven to raise
another few million, which is his motivation.
It really is as simple as that. Bottom line is that he needs the cash. The
seam welder is his latest vehicle, but it is clearly dead in the water as a
commercial device.
If RM is modestly successful, and gets a few million more, then Eric is
probably correct and Mills will move on to redesign the next version… He is
one cool cat, but even cool cats only have nine lives and this demo looks
like number 8.

Wow, those major beggar$, with even less hope of breakeven for the next 20
